asylum and refugee law
If you have fled your country of origin because you, for example, fear of persecution, you must apply for asylum as soon as possible. You do this at a ‘registration center’ (AC).
It is very important that you have supporting documents for your asylum application in the Netherlands. You often do not have any documents with you that can serve as proof of your asylum application. You must then request this as soon as possible. Sometimes you have no proof of what happened to you or what you fear. In that case it is important to put your story on paper including important dates and details.
After you have reported to an AC, the first interview is in a few days, followed by a further interview later, from which the decision is made. If the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) wishes to reject your application, you will first receive an intention to reject it. Your lawyer can submit an opinion against this. If a final rejection follows an appeal can be lodged with the court.
